After crossing multiple time zones over the years, I have experienced both travel fatigue and jet lag countless times.
Traveling comes with inconveniences such as these but having a hectic schedule requires me to be highly functional after my flight, so I have learned a few ways how to prevent or lessen the symptoms of travel fatigue and jet lag. Here are some useful tips you can try:
1. Take a long, warm shower
Wash your fatigue away with a long, warm shower. Nothing else can make you feel more refreshed and energized after hours of feeling icky in your travel clothes.
2. Stay hydrated
As much as you want to avoid bathroom breaks, you need to be properly hydrated to help manage jet lag symptoms. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, and don’t forget to carry and refill your water bottles!
3. Doze off on your flight
Try to sleep on the plane if you can. Bring earplugs or headphones and eye masks with you to help block noise and light. You can also try taking melatonin for better sleep.
4. Get some physical activity
Turn your downtime at the airport into something productive! Instead of wasting minutes on your next layover, try to squeeze in a short walk or do some basic stretches to combat travel stress.
These tips have helped me stay on schedule over the course of my adventures around the globe and I hope these can help you too!
